The 2nd Annual Infectious Diseases Conference: Meeting the Challenge is scientific, informative and educational event organized by the Infectious Diseases Unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex in the Kingdom of Bahrain in collaboration with Saudi Society for Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, Emirates Infectious Diseases Society, Saudi Pharmaceutical Society and the Federation of Arab Societies of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.

Worldwide, infectious diseases continue to pose substantial challenges to public health, despite efforts and advances in prevention and control. The infectious diseases arena is rapidly escalating and particularly the continual evolution of emerging and reemerging diseases and the worsened antimicrobial resistance. Emerging infectious diseases are a significant burden on global economies and public health and their emergence is thought to be driven largely by socio-economic, environmental and ecological factors. It is crucial to promote and support antimicrobial stewardship as an effective strategy for limiting inappropriate and excessive antimicrobial use, while improving and optimizing antimicrobial therapy and clinical outcomes for patients.
